Bentley have launched their first ever electric SUV, called the Torcal. Named after a famous limestone rock formation in Spain, the Torcal is Bentley’s most powerful production car with a total power output of 876 hp, sharing the same platform and wheelbase as the Porsche Cayenne Electric. There are two variants, the Torcal and the slightly more powerful Torcal S.
Because of electric power, the Torcal has a quicker acceleration compared to Bentley’s other SUV, the Bentayga. The Torcal can go from 0-100 kmph in just 2.9 seconds, while the Bentayga takes 3.5 seconds. With a range of up to 600 km, it can be driven without worry especially in cities which is mostly where owners would drive or ride in this type of car.
There are many design changes done here. First, Bentley have gone with a square look for the front of the Torcal much like Bentley models from the 1990s. It also has very thin horizontal headlights with a tiny gap in between which gives me BMW I7 vibes, as well as an illuminated diamond pattern grill on the front built for visual purposes, while the back-end styling looks clean has taillights in a similar shape to the headlights.
The interior is very luxurious as you can expect and besides handcrafted leather, Bentley have introduced a new special merino wool fabric option for the seat upholstery. I like the overall layout of the dashboard, the vertical touchscreen doesn’t occupy too much space and blends well, the wood veneer and fabric combination looks nice and there are physical buttons as well.
While a lot of luxury EVs have gone for radical or futuristic looks, Bentley have gone for a more retro design with the Torcal and I find that refreshing.
The Bentley Torcal is the latest addition in the growing ultra luxury EV segment and it is looking like a solid option already for those who want an luxury electric SUV without radical looks. Bentley are planning to bring the Torcal to India as well and it’s expected to arrive here in mid 2027.
