Not every Mercedes SLR McLaren came in silver or black. Indeed, there are quite a few colorful examples out there such as this stunning metallic blue Roadster featured here, which seems to have been photographed in some kind of dealership in an unspecified location.
Even though the photograph wasn’t taken in clear daylight, the metallic blue paint on the car is easily recognizable. The car has a dark red soft top roof and what looks like a similar red interior inside which is also quite unusual to see done on a standard SLR, so I’m thinking this would be an additional factory option. Whatever might be the case, this example is probably one of the most colorful non modified factory SLRs out there.
Why do I say non modified? Because there were quite a few conversions that McLaren Special Operations did later for the SLR (mainly the McLaren Edition and HDK aka High Downforce Kit) in which the owners were given complete freedom to change the specification of the exterior, which has resulted in more interesting specs getting out there. However, these conversions are extremely rare as MSO had limited them to only a specific number of cars.
Also, a bit off topic here but check out that factory pink Rolls Royce Phantom behind the SLR Roadster, now that is something even for Rolls Royce. Unusual colors on different cars seem to be the theme for that location as other photos taken in the same place showed a red SLR McLaren 722S Roadster too.
Many people (myself included) have mixed feelings about the MSO converted SLRs because of all the visible modifications that were done to these cars, which make them look more like kit cars and so they don’t exactly appeal to those who prefer simplicity. Yes, they are very rare and all, but so are factory examples in unique specs like this metallic blue Roadster.
I much prefer appreciating the beauty and spec of an original SLR McLaren that came straight from the factory just like this Roadster, after all that’s the way Mercedes had intended it to be.
