Supercars from the Void Part 5: Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

This is the 5th and final part of the Supercars From The Void series (earlier parts here 1 2 3 4) and there were a couple of cars in consideration but in the end I decided to pick an Italian beauty that is often overlooked compared to some of its competitors, the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione.

Alfa Romeo launched the 8C Competizione in 2007 as a proper modern supercar. Although there were plenty of Italian supercars around at that time, the 8C stood out mainly because of its beautiful design and the signature metallic red shade. With the same type of V8 engine used by Ferrari and Maserati cars from that time and 444 horsepower, the 8C was decent in performance as well.

Despite the 8C’s higher price compared to rivals in its segment there was very high demand but  unfortunately, Alfa Romeo in the end were only able to produce 500 coupes and 329 spiders (the financial crisis at the time impacting the Spider’s production run which would have been 500 like the coupe) and that didn’t exactly help with popularity. It’s a shame that had to be the case because I think it would have been so cool if there were more of these around.

Today the 8C has found itself in an interesting position. It’s valuable enough thanks to its low production and being one of the only modern Alfa Romeo supercars around, but because the 8C shared the same V8 engine as other competitors and Alfa Romeo’s reliability isn’t exactly the best, most of the cars seem to be spending time in garages these days rather than being driven around.

This recent lack of visibility is also probably one of the main reasons that people don’t seem to talk about the 8C Competizione a whole lot these days, outside of events and the occasional sale it’s just not a car that seems to be seen and it’s unfortunate because I think the 8C is one of the most underrated Italian supercars of all time.
