I’m honestly really surprised that I haven’t ever written about the Ferrari 458 Italia, despite it being not only my favorite Ferrari but my all time favorite supercar since 2011. So I figured the time was right to mention the whole story of how the 458 Italia came to be my favorite supercar.
I don’t recall how exactly I came across the 458 Italia but I would think it was from one of the car magazines as back then I used to read them often. What I remember though is that the first time I saw the image of the 458 Italia I was immediately attracted to it. There was just something about how fast and stylish it looked that appealed to me and that’s how the 458 became my favorite supercar. The 458 Italia only strengthened its position as my #1 car over time as I started to see pictures and videos of it on the internet.
What many people seem to find unusual though is that my favorite supercar has remained the exact same after all this time, especially when people seem quick to move to the latest rare supercar or hypercar. Why is this the case? I’ll try to explain.
The Ferrari 458 Italia is one of the first supercars I ever knew, along with the Mercedes SLS AMG and Lamborghini Aventador. These are the supercars I have grown up with (quite literally until I became an adult in the case of the Aventador and its variants) and I have very fond memories of these cars because of that.
In addition to being one of the first supercars I knew, the 458 Italia is also of the first scale model cars I got in my collection. I also credit the 458 for starting my love for all things Ferrari which is something that very much stays with me to this day as well. So as you can imagine the 458 is one of the most significant supercars for me during my childhood.
After the 458 Italia was discontinued in 2015, successors like the 488 GTB and F8 Tributo came around and although there isn’t anything wrong with those cars, they just weren’t the same and couldn’t recreate the same impression and feeling I had with the 458 Italia.
I haven’t yet seen the original 458 Italia but I have been fortunate to see one of its variants, the 458 Speciale which is the track version of the 458 Italia, in real life. The dream still remains to see a bright red 458 Italia just like the image of it that has stuck with me all those years ago. Until then, I will continue the enjoy and admire the 458 Italia’s beauty from the screen and in the form of its scale model.
So this combination of factors. The 458 Italia being one of the first supercars I knew and making such a impression on me the very first time I ever saw an image of it, the 458 being one of the most significant cars for me in my childhood and no Ferrari or supercar till now being able to recreate the same kind of feeling I had with the 458. These are some of the reasons I can think of why the 458 Italia still remains my #1 today.
