Seeing A Hypercar – The Ultimate Dream

A hypercar in simple terms is basically an ultimate supercar. There are several key features in order to classify a car as a hypercar. Mainly aerodynamics and performance, design and rarity.

Hypercars usually use highly advanced materials such as carbon fiber in their design to keep the car lightweight which helps with the aerodynamics of the car and to increase its top speed. Due to the aerodynamics, majority of hypercars have a distinct shape that also happens to stand out visually and make it more recognizable.

For rarity. In order to make them as exclusive as possible, hypercars have a production number of 500 units or lesser and in some cases are even one offs. Owners have complete control over the configuration and specs of their car making each specific example unique in its own way.

As some of the most exclusive vehicles around, it is every supercar enthusiast and car photographers dream to see and photograph one. The first hypercar sighting be it at an event, showroom or even a lucky spot is a very special milestone for any car enthusiast.

For me that sighting would come at the Auto Madness Dubai event. Like most enthusiasts, I would have assumed my first hypercar sighting would have been a Bugatti Chiron or Veyron especially as it was Dubai where there are plenty of them. However, it would turn out to be the McLaren P1 GTR, a non-road legal track variant of the already incredible P1 with a production number of only 58 units.

I had walked in one of the Dubai Autodrome garages and saw the P1 GTR kept on display and it is a sight I will never forget. Seeing a supercar is always a great feeling but when you see and look at a hypercar up close it’s completely different. Just the realization that you are so up close with something so exclusive in the car world that you know isn’t seen around much, it is hard to imagine anything more incredible.

And when you see these cars in person it makes you appreciate the detailing, design and engineering of these cars even more. I am very fortunate to have seen up close and photographed not 1 but 2 hypercars that even within the category, are extremely rare.

I will eventually make proper dedicated posts about the P1 GTR as well as the 2nd hypercar I had seen at the event.

Yes, I was there
