When you think of convertibles, Mercedes cars probably don’t come to your mind immediately. Somehow though, there’s something about the style of Mercedes convertibles that I find appealing.
The Mercedes AMG GTC has pretty sleek and stylish looks, while looking aggressive like a typical AMG sports car. These proportions just seem to work really nicely as a convertible, especially when the soft top is removed.
I feel that non SL series Mercedes convertibles in general are pretty underrated and the AMG GTC roadster is a good example of this. Although maybe it might not stand out like its Ferrari or Lamborghini competitors, it is definitely a proper performance convertible as it has a powerful V8 engine that gives up to 550 hp. The AMG GTC convertible is also kind of an all around car that’s more road friendly although really it can be used pretty much anywhere from city roads to race tracks.
The thing however is that even if the AMG GTC roadster may be more powerful, Mercedes convertibles like I have mentioned are usually associated with the iconic SL series so their other convertible models such as the AMG GTC roadster kind of get pushed aside.
The AMG GTC roadster stopped production a few years ago in 2021 and though a facelifted AMG GT arrived in 2023, I haven’t found any information regarding a potential new AMG GT roadster which is unfortunate because I really do think it’s a car that looks beautiful as a convertible and having seen an artist’s rendering of what a new AMG GT roadster might possibly look like it also feels like such a miss if Mercedes doesn’t end up making one.
I would still hope though that even if the AMG GT may not be their most iconic model, Mercedes will eventually make a convertible version of the 2023 facelift soon enough.
