It has been nearly 10 years since the launch of the Ferrari LaFerrari and finally after much waiting and buildup, a successor has arrived at last. Meet the F80, Ferrari’s latest flagship hypercar.
The Ferrari F80 definitely takes some inspiration from the 499P Le Mans hypercar as it shares the twin-turbo hybrid V6 engine used in the 499P except that in the case of the F80, the power of the engine has been increased to an incredible 1184 hp. One of the other highlights of the F80 is its acceleration as it can go from 0-100 kmph in just 2.2 seconds. The F80 also has a claimed top speed of 350 kmph much like the LaFerrari although it is very possible the F80 could exceed that number.
Despite the F80 being over $3 million, all 799 units were sold out even before it was revealed. It’s also interesting that 799 units were planned in the first place because usually Ferrari hypercars tend to have lesser unit numbers, in fact even the Monza from the Icona series is rarer.
The F80 definitely looks like a hypercar and the proportions are fine but I feel the black bit that covers so much of a front is unnecessary, it looked fine on the 12 Cilindri but here it just blocks too much with the headlights barely even noticeable. The front of the car would look much nicer in my opinion if the black bit in the front matched the body color like the rest of the car.
That pretty much covers the F80. Seeing the high demand this car has brought despite it’s price tag, I think it’s very likely there will be an Aperta or convertible version coming out as well in the future and perhaps we might even see a track only variant of the F80 come up from Ferrari’s XX Program.
With the McLaren W1 and now the Ferrari F80 launched, the new Holy Trinity is nearly here. All that’s left now is for Porsche to join in. While Porsche have revealed the Mission X concept hypercar a while ago, there hasn’t been any recent news or confirmation as to when Porsche’s hypercar will arrive but it would not surprise me if comes sooner than later to now to complete the Holy Trinity seeing the W1 and F80 have launched.
