It’s only been around a month since the Bugatti Chiron ended production, but Bugatti have already announced their newest hypercar and successor to the Chiron and it is quite something.
Bugatti’s newest creation is called the Tourbillon, the name inspired by a watch component notably used in the special edition Jacob & Co. Bugatti watches (with almost all of them sharing the same name).
Bugatti have not stuck with their usual engine for their newest addition, bringing in a new V16 hybrid engine. This is the first supercar or hypercar to have the V16 engine since… a Cadillac concept car from 2003 apparently which suitably enough was called the Cadillac Sixteen, although that would technically be a luxury car.
If concepts don’t count we have to go all the way back to the 1930s to find a V16 being used. So basically, it’s totally unique and unheard of in a supercar or hypercar. Additionally that V16 engine powers the Tourbillon to an incredible 1800 hp, making it Bugatti’s most powerful creation as of now.
The Tourbillon will have a production number of 250 units, half of the earlier Chiron’s 500 which makes it a rarer and more valuable Bugatti to acquire. Knowing the Veyron and Chiron, there will likely be several different editions and variants made of the Tourbillon as well.
There aren’t a whole lot of visual changes. The exterior doesn’t look that much different from the Chiron although it kind of reminds me of the Vision GT concept with details like the wider lights, lack of door handles and a larger frame just without the aggressive edges. The internals of the Tourbillon on the other hand however, are completely built from the ground up.
The Tourbillon is easily the most unique car Bugatti has created until now, I don’t think there is any car quite like this. I look forward to seeing where Bugatti goes with this new era.
