The Ford Mustang is one of the most popular sports cars of all time, especially in the United States. It’s no surprise that over generations, Ford has produced has countless variants, performance editions and special editions of the Mustang.
Perhaps the most recognizable of these are the Shelbys. Shelbys are the high performance Mustangs and have been around for just about as long as the original Mustang has been. There are so many that if I were to go into detail with every single edition and variant I would be spending months posting them. This time though, the 3rd generation Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is the car that gets the spotlight.
Launched in 2020, the 3rd generation Shelby GT500 actually came after quite a gap from the previous generation which was discontinued back in 2012. The 2020 Shelby GT500 has an incredible 760 hp making it easily the most powerful Shelby ever and an extremely powerful car for its type, even beating out several European supercars. For comparison the Ferrari F8 Tributo that was launched around the same time has only around 710 hp which is 50 hp lesser than the Shelby GT500.
Just the fact the Shelby GT500 is more powerful than even several European supercars is quite something as it shows there are American cars that can take on their European counterparts in terms of power. The Shelby GT500 has pretty good speed stats too although in the United States speed limit laws restrict the cars top speed. However if you were to take the car on the German Autobahn or a race track, you can enjoy reaching the cars full potential with a top speed of 315 kmph.
The 2020 Shelby GT500 as one would expect looks far more aggressive compared to the normal Mustang and features the usual Shelby stripes and spoiler. There are also plenty of customization and modding options from kit makers that can make the GT500 even more powerful and aggressive.
Production for the Shelby GT500 discontinued in 2022. Although I could not find any news of a successor, the 3rd generation Shelby GT500 is a car that created plenty of impact when it came and continues to do so today.
