The Ferrari Enzo is undoubtedly one of most iconic Ferraris ever made, being the fastest production Ferrari at the time and more importantly named in a tribute to Enzo Ferrari himself. The Enzo is also one of the most fascinating Ferraris in recent times, for a start nobody is 100 percent sure how many Enzos were even made with claims ranging from 400 (Ferrari’s official claim) to over 500 units.
There are also plenty of interesting stories of certain Enzos and one example in particular stands out as not only the most unique, but also one of the most mysterious and fascinating Enzos ever built mainly due to it’s backstory.
Ferrari Enzo chassis number 136069 is something special. Although there were a couple of Enzos made in regular black, this is the only Enzo in the matte black shade called Nero Opaco and it was also factory painted in that color, making it more special as having a custom factory shade on a Ferrari let alone one as exclusive as the Enzo was unheard of at the time.
The reason this unique one-off Enzo was made possible was because it was ordered by none other than the Brunei Royal Family. Knowing their status and their history of collecting limited edition Ferraris such as F40s as well as other supercars which include at least 8 McLaren F1s (including 2 F1 LMs), several Bugatti EB110s, Jaguar XJ220s and Lamborghini Diablos to name a few, Ferrari fulfilled their request.
Another thing worth mentioning is that most of the BRF supercars were from the late 1980s to the mid 1990s and by the mid to late 2000s, they slowed down on buying supercars and stopped buying them in bulk (This Enzo for example is the only one I know for sure of that was bought by the BRF) before stopping buying supercars entirely by the 2010s. It makes this Enzo even more significant than it already is, as it is likely to have been one of the last limited edition or special edition supercars the BRF added in their collection.
After spending years between the UK and Brunei out of the public eye, the Nero Opaco Enzo suddenly returned to the spotlight when it came up for sale in an RM Sotheby’s auction back in 2022 before getting sold privately for an undisclosed amount.
After getting sold, this unique Enzo seems to have unfortunately gone once again back into the shadows and out of the public eye as I haven’t been able to find any images or public appearances of the car since the auction. That being said I would hope that the car has been well maintained and is kept in good condition by the new owner.
