The 1990s were quite a time for sports cars and supercars and the decade saw a lot of iconic models being brought in ranging from the Honda NSX to the Lamborghini Diablo. Now what did Ferrari’s lineup look like at the time? Well, they had several cars in their lineup and one of the mainstays was the F355 which had the Berlinetta, Spider and GTS variants.
The F355 GTS, introduced in 1995, is a targa top model with a removable roof. With a top speed of 295 kmph, it may not have seemed like much, but compared to earlier models the F355 actually gave a big upgrade in performance and reliability. The F355 GTS came with a modern and sleek exterior design typical of supercars from that era, the design being done by none other than Pininfarina.
The F355 GTS finds itself in an interesting place today. Between the 3 F355 variants, the GTS was the least produced but it still wasn’t really considered a rare car considering the F355 had the highest production output of any Ferrari road car at the time. However, the F355s have been increasing in value lately and it wouldn’t be surprising if that trend continues.
One of the reasons the F355 is rising up in value is because it is more reliable compared to earlier Ferraris, but at the same time, it still has that classic look and feel that just reminds you of a 1990s supercar. Also, it was the first Ferrari to have an F1-style gearbox and I might add there are only a handful of F355 GTS cars that have the F1 transmission, making it even more sought after.
The F355 GTS is a good example of a car that still looks just about as modern and beautiful as it did back when it was launched. Today the F355 GTS stands out as one of the iconic supercars of the 1990s and I can very much see the possibility of this car becoming a modern classic in the future.
