Porsche’s Boxster is one of the iconic convertible sports cars out there. The Boxster has been around for several generations now but the 981 gen Boxster GTS that was produced from 2014 to 2016 is considered to be one of the most fun convertibles around. There were three variants of the 981 Boxster line. Boxster, Boxster S and finally Boxster GTS. The GTS being the most powerful top end variant designed for performance.

The 981 Boxster GTS has 330 horsepower, enough to enjoy performance during a drive while also being easier to control compared to supercars with higher horsepower, the car would be offered with both a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. Although the 981 Boxster GTS may not have as much of a raw feel, it was much more reliable compared to earlier generations. There have also been mixed feelings among enthusiasts about the 718 Boxster and Cayman that succeeded the 981 generation, this applies particularly to earlier models of the 718 that lacked the iconic 4.0 flat-six engine.

Though Porsche eventually reintroduced the flat-six for the 718 GTS models from 2021 onwards, interest for the 718 still didn’t seem to be as much compared to the earlier 981 generation of the Cayman and Boxster, which has become something of a sweet spot for sports car enthusiasts, particularly the GTS models which were the top non track oriented models.

The 981 Boxster GTS remains a popular choice when it comes to entry level performance sports car, especially for those who are looking for a performance convertible. It is balanced, reliable, has enough speed and power to make it fun to drive around and the sound created by the flat-six engine makes for a proper Porsche experience.
