So the Mecum Indy 2025 Auction happened and it wasn’t any of the McLarens, but this Ferrari LaFerrari from the Dave Frecka collection that caught the most attention when it comes to hypercars, getting sold for a total of $3.5 million.

But I am not surprised this is the case. I have been keeping an eye on this auction for some time and the LaFerrari always had strong potential from the beginning to sell for a very high amount. Even though the LaFerrari might not be as crazy as some of the other cars from the collection like the McLaren Solus GT, it is a strong contender in many ways.

First, the LaFerrari is one of the most famous hypercars around. I remember there being a time when every enthusiast dreamed of this car, including myself. And can you really blame us? It’s a Ferrari, it’s red and it’s fast. Not to mention when Ferrari created the car, they were so proud of how it turned out, that they named it the LaFerrari because to them it represented the perfect Ferrari. Add the fact the LaFerrari is the last V12 hypercar from Ferrari and is 1 of only 499 and it’s obvious just how special this car is.

Needless to say, those who could afford the LaFerrari went for it. It had a starting price of $1.5 million but once production stopped the value of the car skyrocketed and some of these examples in recent times have gone for up to $5.5 million. Don’t be surprised if this number manages to go higher for the LaFerrari considering its exclusivity and its position in history as the final V12 Ferrari hypercar.

As for the LaFerrari which has just been sold for $3.5 million, whoever the new proud owner might be, they can definitely say they’ve got the perfect Ferrari in the collection.
