Rolls Royce is a brand that is all about luxury and it’s very evident on their cars such as the Phantom for example, which is why when they released the Wraith, a 2 door coupe with 624 hp, it was quite a surprise for many and knowing their focus on pure luxury it seemed like an unusual move for them to do.
It was obvious the Wraith was intended to take on similar cars of its type from other manufacturers but that being said, many still went for rivals like the Bentley Continental GT or Aston Martin DB9 that gave a similar package but with better performance, for a lesser price compared to the Wraith.
Additionally most Rolls Royce buyers stuck to their traditional cars so the Wraith ended up finding itself in an odd position, becoming more popular among celebrities and influencers who bought it as a showoff kind of a car, many who went for crazy specs not normally seen on a Rolls Royce and some even putting additional aftermarket customization.
Despite the Wraith not being as well known as some of the other models in the RR lineup, it still remained in production for a number of years and was discontinued back in 2023 before being replaced by the electric and more luxurious Spectre.
Even though its production ended not too long ago, the Rolls Royce Wraith already feels like it’s been pretty forgotten despite being the most powerful Rolls Royce for its time. It feels like the only recognition the Wraith seems to get these days is because well-known YouTuber Mat Armstrong successfully rebuilt a wrecked modified example that once belonged to footballer Marcus Rashford.
Besides that, nobody really seems to talk about the Wraith anymore these days with the newer Spectre already having gained much more attention than the Wraith ever seemed to have gotten during its production run.
My own brief encounter with one of these Wraith’s in person seemed to suit it well, a slowly forgotten car driving away in silence without really getting seen in the spotlight. That being said, things still could change in the future once the hype of the Spectre dies down and people might start to realize and appreciate the Wraith a little bit more as the one true attempt at a Rolls Royce GT.
