You might remember the infamous “Kiwi Edition” McLaren Senna which got totaled back in May of 2024 when it crashed into a Lexus dealership in Los Angeles, after owner and driver Edmond Mondi lost control of the car doing donuts on public roads. Well, it turns out that a group of YouTubers have actually bought the wreckage just a couple weeks ago and are going to attempt a rebuild.
After the crash, when the wrecked remains of the car showed up as a listing in a salvage auction and seeing the damaged state of the car, it seemed like the story of this very unique Senna was unfortunately going to end there.
The Senna ended up selling for $326,500 despite its condition, while nobody knew the identity of the buyer until recently. As mentioned, the buyer is actually a YouTube group called Goonzquad who have fixed and rebuilt exotic and performance cars before. It was actually because their video got recommended to me that I got to know about this development.
Now a few parts from the wreckage such as the rear engine cover as well as the key for the car have actually gone missing and since these parts were visible in earlier pictures at the salvage auction website, they have most likely been stolen.
The guys at Goonzquad plan to restore the car to its original unique spec which I am very happy to see because that is the main reason why this Senna is so special. It has a one of a kind Porsche Oak Green Metallic shade, fully customized interiors which include kiwi logos stitched inside (which is why this car has been nicknamed the “Kiwi Edition”) and also a ton of added carbon fiber options. This particular Senna also happens to be the 10th of 500 units produced.
Edmond Mondi himself commented on the video, in which he mentions that he will be sending several stock parts and other accessories that he still had from when he owned the Senna over to the Goonzquad garage, also wishing good luck during the build and adding that he couldn’t wait to see the Senna back in its glory.
No doubt trying to rebuild a damaged McLaren Senna is going to be a massive effort, but there have been several successful luxury and supercar rebuilds and restorations done by YouTubers like the Rolls Royce Wraith that was rebuilt by UK based Mat Armstrong for example, so there is hope that something similar will happen for the Senna.
This unique McLaren Senna already has quite a story to tell and now with a lucky second chance, I look forward to seeing how things go for it and hopefully soon enough, it can hit the racetrack as it was meant to do.
