Porsche’s 911 Dakar edition is quite unique among 911s as it is so far the only 911 model that was specifically designed for proper off roading. The 911 Dakar came with the option to have it in a white and blue racing livery that was inspired by the 1984 Dakar Rally winning Porsche 953. Motorsport heritage is a big deal and it’s understandable why a lot of 911 Dakar owners decided to go with the livery, coming from someone who loves seeing manufacturers like Porsche make cars that pay tribute to race victories and other special occasions in their history.
It feels like an unusual sight at first seeing the 911 Dakar without the signature livery, but the livery is optional for a reason, not everyone would want to have it on their 911 Dakar. In fact, this example here keeps things very simple and honestly it looks pretty cool in its own way.
With a silver exterior instead of the livery, the details and features of the 911 Dakar become a lot more clearly visible in a clean and simple spec like this even from a side angle like in the featured image here. When you compare this 911 Dakar compared to a standard 911 in the same color the differences become a lot more obvious to see.
First, the higher ground clearance that allows the 911 Dakar to be used comfortably for off road driving. Then, the Pirelli off road tires which have a noticeably thicker rubber so that it can be used for rough terrain. You can also make out there are two vents on the front of the 911 Dakar just like the GT3, the rear wing is also borrowed from the GT3.
This example just goes to show you that even without the livery, the Porsche 911 Dakar looks equally cool and confident, which is exactly how an off road supercar should be.
